Site Rules

There may be a number of specific hazards inherent to our Southland disABILITY Enterprises sites, which you, as a visitor need to be aware of. These include:

  • High noise levels

  • Heat and Dust

  • Moving Machinery

  • Remotely operated machinery

  • Conveyors

  • Confined spaces

  • Forklift and traffic movement

The risks to you from these hazards will be substantially reduced if you comply with the following rules:

  1. To enter any Southland disABILITY Enterprises factory or work site area, you may be asked to wear: ·

  • Safety Spectacles (Supplied by SEI)

  • Ear Plugs or Ear Muffs

  • Closed toe flat sturdy shoes

  • Long-sleeved shirt or blouse (recommended)

  • Uniforms

  • Hair Nets

  • Fluoro vest

  1. In addition to this, if you are going into maintenance areas or near moving machinery you must: ·

  • Keep long (collar length or longer) hair controlled

  •  Remove neckties, scarves and loose jewellery

  • Wear safety shoes or boots

  • All Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd buildings, motor vehicles and related work sites are smoke free zones.

  • Stay close to your SDE contact in factory areas and do not touch any equipment.

  • Wear your visitors badge at all times and return it along with any safety protective equipment to the receptionist on the way out.

  • Be aware of traffic on site, including trucks, forklifts and tractors or front-end loaders.

  • In an emergency, follow the directions of your contact.

  • If you are injured in anyway or notice a situation that you consider to be hazardous to personnel or the equipment please let your SDE contact know immediately.

SDE SUPPORTS A HARRASSMENT FREE ENVIRONMENT – ANY COMPLAINTS WILL BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY

Health, Safety and Environment Policy

We are committed to the protection of our employees, property and other persons from accidental injury or damage from activities carried out by, and on behalf of Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd.

We adopt health, safety and welfare as a fundamental objective.

In meeting this commitment, management will comply with all legislative requirements and take all practicable steps to:

  1. Provide a safe training and work environment, safe equipment and proper materials.

  2. Establish and insist that safe work methods are practised at all times.

  3. Ensure employees, and other persons understand and accept their responsibility to promote a safe and healthy environment to achieve the objectives of Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd.

  4. Identify and eliminate unsafe conditions and work practices from the workplace.

Environment:

  1. As an organisation dedicated to the removal of items from the waste stream, Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd will ensure that we do not use any materials within our operations that are harmful to the environment.

  2. We will continue to expand our recycling operations ensuring the most efficient use is made of energy whilst carrying out these activities.

  3. We will expand our usage of recycled materials for remanufacturing where proper and feasible to do so.

To support this Policy Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd commits to:

  1. Making all employees responsible for ensuring that all Health and Safety policies are carried out and that the extensive use of the various HSE tools that have been taught to all personnel are used on a daily basis to ensure that we have a safe, and healthy working environment.

  2. Promoting Employee, Board Members, Contractors and Members of SDE awareness of our HSE issues through ongoing training and reporting.

  3. Regularly reviewing this policy to ensure it remains appropriate for SDE.

As individuals, we all need to make a personal commitment to apply the principles of this policy to continually improve “the way we work” every single day.

Our belief is that all injuries, occupational illness or environmental incidents are preventable and we aim to eliminate them.

Everyone has the authority to stop the work they are doing and find a better way if it is unsafe or may cause harm to a person’s health or the environment.
