VADIVELAN (VELAN) ARIKRISHNAN (B.SC) - Production Manager

Velan has a management background in Heavy Industry, and Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Human Development.  His previous work and studies in Malaysia meant that he wasn’t always able to give enough time to his family – one of the main reasons he, along with his wife Ranjita and son Guru, moved to New Zealand.

Velan was exceptionally pleased to be offered the position of Production Manager at Southland disAbility Enterprises Ltd, as he believes that SDE offers a special and fulfilling work environment. 

“My team has a great source of talent.  Their productivity, skills and passion mean that we can really develop special relationships that allow each person to work at their very best, and have a fully supported team spirit.”

Velan likes to play squash during his free time, and believes he is also ‘being spoiled’ with Southland outdoor activities such as duck shooting, white-baiting, and fishing. He is very keen to take on as many outdoor activities as he can.    velan@sde.org.nz

NOEL MCINTYRE - Woodwork Supervisor

I have worked at Southland disABILITY Enterprises in the Woodwork Department for the past 15 years.   My role as supervisor is to teach people with disabilities good work ethics and skills with on the job training. 

We make a variety of items ranging from Dog Kennels, Play Houses, Picnic Tables, Pallets, Gazebos, Crates for shipping fire boxes and a range of outdoor furniture and other one off items as requested (for example: packing crates for cars, engines.)  Our products are displayed throughout the website. 
 
Over the years, we have had a number of our employees train in the woodwork department and then move on into mainstream employment.       noel@sde.org.nz

JUSTIN STEWART – Packaging and Assembly Supervisor

I am the supervisor in the packing room.  I began at SDE as a co-worker in the Woodwork room in 1991, and transferred to the Cane Room in 1992.  Over the years I have worked in the Cane Room, Packaging Room and other departments as required. 

In 2008, the Cane Room closed and became the main Packaging and Assembly Room.   I have worked my way up through the ranks from Co-worker to Team Leader and was recently appointed  Supervisor of the Packaging and Assembly room. I oversee all contracts and make sure the employees are doing their job.  I have to ensure that the contracts are completed to a high standard and delivered on time.
 
In my spare time I enjoy being a cub leader at Georgetown Scouts.  I raise chickens and sell the eggs to family and friends.  I also enjoy listening to my music.
 
I have met many friends here at SDE. It is a fantastic and safe place for people with disabilities.  You get treated like an equal.         justin@sde.org.nz
