ian beker (QSM, AFNZIM) - general manager |
|
He came to SDE fresh out of 22 years in the army. This included spending time in Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and nearly every army base in New Zealand. His previous experience as a Senior Administrator with Defence, enabled him to design administrative, financial and operating systems for the (then) SEI which have since proven invaluable. Those initial systems have enabled SDE to implement the current operating systems that can now take us into the future. Ian has served on a number of Ministerial appointments within the Disability Sector and is a Board Member of Workability International Oceania Group. He was a co-author of the book “Aiming for Excellence through Best Practice Guidelines for Vocational and Support Services” and has contributed regularly to various Disability practices Journals. He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Invercargill Sunrise, was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in 2006 for his work in the Disability Sector, and was awarded a Lloyd Morgan Lions Club Membership in 2005 for the same. His other community work is as the President of the Awarua Returned Servicemen’s Club, and as the Pensions and Welfare Representative for the Southland Vietnam Veterans. In 2010, Ian was awarded a Queens Service Medal for Services to the Community. He credits his amazing wife Bronwyn, son Dion, daughters Lyla Dawn and Jodie, and his five grandchildren with the fact that his hair is still blonde (mostly). When not at work, you will most often find Ian out hunting or fishing. Ian has been the major force behind SDE moving into the 21st century with calm determination, and the vision to lead the Southland Community in ways that the rest of the country is only just now starting to follow. ian@sde.org.nz |
