Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd is critically focused on ensuring that the employment and services being offered by SDE are tailored to meet the individual needs of the employees while also adjusting, adapting and altering to meet the changing needs of the community.  

The concepts started in 1995 - those of moving the decision making back into the hands of the people - that Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd was established for, has proven to be a winning formula.  

With guidance and training, we believe that anyone can make sound decisions based on informed choices.  

Loosening the Reins

However, actively encouraging that decision making is a quantum leap for a number of organisations in the disability sector.   This is because along with decision making, comes the acceptance of the responsibility of the consequences of those decisions, and this is an evolving process that is only gradually being understood by most of those involved.  

We believe that there has to also be a quantum leap in the thinking process for those individuals or organisations who traditionally referred their people to attend Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd, as we can no longer employ twice as many people as are needed to do a job, simply for those referring organisations to be able to say that their clients now have a job.  

Keeping the virtuous circle open

It is imperative that we are able to tender for commercial enterprises, and crucial that the community recognise that enabling a people based, not for profit enterprise to take precedence over any profit making venture that utilizes machines over people, will always be more than just good business.

If the future evolution of Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd is continually linked to this virtuous circle, then it is a winning formula.
