!! Hot off the Press !!

Well, we have officially opened our new Recycling Plant. It was a great ceremony and we almost have too much work to do now! (Not that we're complaining :) Click HERE to see all the photos.

CHRISTCHURCH:  Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone there.  Our workers and staff are doing their part to help as well.  Firstly, we assisted by doing the packaging for Back Country Foods contract to send Ration Packs to Christchurch, and are donating our entire fee for this.  Secondly, we are running a disco on Friday, with all the proceeds and another $200 from the Social Club going to the fund.  Thirdly, we have a collection box in the front office and have been encouraging all visitors and staff to dig deeply.

Welcome to Aaron Harpur, our new Woodwork Supervisor.  He has been cranking out orders for picnic tables, dog hotels and gazebos, and now DOC have him working all hours for them too - watch this space!

This is getting to be a wonderful habit!  Word just in that Ian has been awarded a Local Heroes Medal for his work in the Southland community, as part of the New Zealander of the Year Awards 2011.  Come March 10th, there will be another memento on the table in his office.  Congratulations again! 

Shelley Clark's photo of Bob Kemp, hard at work in the wood recycling department, earned her 3rd place in the Workability International Photo Competition 2010.  With over ninety other competitors, she well deserves the recognition of her work.  If you would like to see the photo and the judges comments, please click HERE.

Big congratulations from all of the SDE family go out to our General Manager, Ian Beker - now Ian Beker QSM - for his inclusion in the Queens Birthday Honours list 2010.  Read the Southland Times article HERE.

June:

    SDE extends our warmest welcome to Vadivelan Arikrishnan, our new Production Manager. He and his wife Ranjita come from Malaysia, and we know Velan will bring a depth of new skills to our organisation.

    Velan is our very first ever dedicated Production Manager, and so while his arrival will mean a learning curve for us all, Southland and Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd will be much richer for having him here.

    We look forward to September, when Velan and Ranjita can collect their son from Malaysia, and then really get on with their life as a Kiwi family.

    Southland disABILITY Enterprises Ltd. are very proud to have been selected as the inaugural winners of the BDO Spicers Sustainable Development in Business Award, from the Vero Excellence in Business Support Awards, held in May, as part of the Bizzone Expo in Auckland. 

General Manager, Ian Beker and Chairman of the Board, Thursa Kennedy, were at the awards and Ian received the award on behalf of all the staff and workers at SDE.  Congratulations on a job extremely well done!
