VOLUME 16 Issue March/April 2010

from THE BOSS

In the last newsletter I was positive about the council making the right decision but as we all now know, the only decision they made at that time was to not make a decision.

Hopefully after the review that we are all paying for, they will see that the options that were given to them by Waste Net had been researched and they will finally make a decision so we can move forward.

Until we have a long term contract as the processor of items collected from households we cannot sign up to major capital commitments which in turn means we cannot move forward in our plans to go onto one site.

On a happier note, Stuart Collie our Deputy Chairman is standing for the Council so let’s hope he gets elected so we can have one strong supporter helping us.

To that end I am looking for anyone who will let him put up an election sign on their property so we can give him as much exposure as possible to help his election chances.

If you wish to help him in this manner, please let me know.

Finally thanks to all who helped at this year’s annual camp which was enjoyed by everyone who went.

For the crew from Cargill it was a new experience as they had not been with us before and to experience the SdE way of camping.

As usual we ate too much, partied too much and (for some) walked too much but the weather was kind, good company, fine food (and no sandfly’s), makes Tautuku a great place to go for a camp.

 Cheers Ian

VICAR OF DIBLEY’S COLUMN  (Alias Debra Murphy)

One would have to start with the wonderful combined camp at Tautuku. A great time was had by all, with the blending of the two groups enhancing the fun with friendship being a welcome outcome. We enjoyed the walks through the beautiful bush, along the sandy beach, which took our breath away.

We were certainly blessed with lovely weather during the days but very chilly evenings. The large fireplace became the main meeting area with our lovely meals and of course the disco, on Saturday night, where many showed their dancing skills to a lovely selection of music.

Some are still reflecting on Camp, but most have now moved on to the expectation of the ten pin bowling competition in eleven weeks time in Dunedin, where the hope is to bring the bowling shield back home. Will keep you informed.

To finish with a thought: “To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe”.

Anatole France, Take Care.

Dear Ian,

I would like this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation towards our Ruru School Market Day Raffles.

Our raffles were a huge success along with our Market Day and the total amount raised was $2,304.10.

We are so thrilled with this amount of money which we can pass on to Southland Hospice and the Starship Foundation.

Our weekly school newsletter acknowledged your business donation to our successful day. We appreciate your ongoing support.

Yours Sincerely

Deanna Cairns

We celebrated a major milestone at Tiwai by being accident free for one year. This was achieved by doing “Safe Days” every morning as well as our Take 5’s once a week.  One of the main ways we keep safe is by being “brothers keepers” as we look after each others safety.

Morning tea was shouted to acknowledge our achievement and a banner was also put up in our area. Well done the Tiwai Team!
